The Montana Institute of Sport supports specific sports directly in physical education curriculum.
Direct Sport Support: Fostering Specific Sports in Montana
Our “Direct Sport Support” program at the Montana Institute of Sport (MIS) is specifically designed to cultivate growth and excellence within individual sports across Montana. A prime example of this is our successful “Try Rugby” initiative. Since its inception, Montana Youth Rugby Club Programs have doubled in numbers, with MIS directly supporting three of these clubs. This targeted approach ensures that specific sports receive the resources and attention needed to thrive at the grassroots level.
Tangible Results and Strategic Partnerships in Sport Development
The impact of our “Direct Sport Support” is evident in tangible outcomes for specific sports. The Montana Youth Rugby Union, for instance, has experienced a remarkable 4x player growth, 3x coach growth, and a 5x referee growth. This sustained development is further bolstered by our strategic partnerships, such as collaborating with the Montana Coaching Association (MCA) to introduce “Try Sport” to coaches and administrators. We also work with organizations like the Society of Health & Physical Education (SHAPE), whose Executive Director now serves on the board of Montana Rugby. These collaborations ensure a robust and supportive environment for the continued growth and success of specific sports throughout Montana, including two Montanan high school players receiving scholarships to a NCAA Division I-A Rugby program for the first time, and two high school programs achieving national rankings.
